Welcome to joyous, a municipality that is on the list of countries that make up the territory of the Department of Ardeche. She is also part of the country of Beaume, Drobie Cévennes. When traveling in this area, one can notice the strong presence of chestnuts. Not surprisingly, there is a museum especially dedicated to these trees. It is the Museum of the chestnut. It is one of the must-see sites and one of the sights that can be found in this part of France.
The history of this museum goes back several years. The investigator called Ms. Coste, a passionate and antique dealer who spent his time collecting tools on the civilization of the chestnut. It gathered his collection pieces in his shop. In 1981, the municipality of Joyeuse helped by the Council General bought his entire collection.
To highlight this heritage, Ms. Evelyne Zminka, President of the association of the free time organized a temporary exhibition. As the exhibition had great success, we decided to create a museum with collected coins. The management of the Museum was then taken into hand by the community of communes of the country of Beaume Drobie.
The Museum consists of 4 rooms which have in total over 500 items, old tools and unique furniture. It is installed in the former the Oratorian college dating back to the 17th century in the heart of the city of Joyeuse.
In this Museum, one can trace the history of the Millennium tree that crossed centuries and uses on a space of 400 m2. There are no old stories in this place. There are also elements which allow to understand how this tree and the fruit still has value and importance to date in this area. Somehow, this museum is a kind of window that represents the expertise and creativity of the Ardèche producers and processors of chestnut up to now.
